Cupping
Tight muscles, tension, or soreness? Cupping is a powerful yet gentle way to release stiffness, improve circulation, and promote faster recovery.
What is cupping?
You’ve probably seen those telltale circular marks on the backs of athletes,
...but cupping has been around for centuries, long before it became trendy. Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, cupping is a time-tested therapy that uses gentle suction to promote healing and restore balance.
Special cups are placed on the skin to create negative pressure, which increases circulation, draws out stagnation, and encourages your body’s natural healing process. Cups may be made of glass, silicone, or bamboo, and suction is created using heat or a small hand pump — depending on the technique used.
The result? Relief, relaxation, and a greater sense of ease in your body.

Benefits of Cupping
Cupping is loved by athletes, wellness seekers, and anyone looking for a natural way to release tension and support healing. Some of the most common benefits include:
Pain Relief
Cupping can ease muscle tightness, reduce tension in the back, neck, and shoulders, and help with joint pain or chronic discomfort. It’s especially great for breaking up stubborn muscle knots and supporting athletic recovery.
Improved Circulation
The suction from the cups helps draw blood to the surface, increasing circulation and delivering fresh oxygen and nutrients to tired tissues. That means faster recovery and less soreness.
Reduced Inflammation
By promoting lymphatic drainage and improving blood flow, cupping may help calm inflammation and support your body’s natural detox process.
Deep Relaxation
Many people find cupping to be surprisingly calming. The rhythmic suction and stillness of the session can help melt away stress and leave you feeling lighter and more grounded.
What to Expect During a Cupping Session
If you’ve never tried cupping before, here’s what to expect from a session:
1. A Quick Consultation. Before starting, your practitioner will ask about your health history and goals for the session. We’ll always tailor the treatment to your needs.
2. Getting Comfortable. You’ll lie down on a massage table in a private room, and we’ll help you get comfortable. We may apply a light oil to help the cups move smoothly over your skin.
3. Cup Placement. The cups are placed on specific areas — usually the back, shoulders, or legs — and suction is applied. You’ll feel a firm pulling sensation that many patients describe as intense but relieving.
4. Time to Rest. The cups are typically left in place for 5 to 15 minutes. You can rest, breathe, and let your body do the work.
5. Aftercare. After we remove the cups, you may notice round red or purple marks where they were placed. These are normal and usually fade within a few days. We recommend drinking plenty of water, resting, and avoiding cold drafts on the treated area.

Is Cupping Safe?
Cupping is a low-risk treatment when performed by trained professionals — like our team at Encircle. Most side effects are mild and temporary, such as light bruising or soreness.
Cupping may not be appropriate if you have certain medical conditions, including anemia, bleeding disorders, clotting issues, seizures, or a pacemaker. We also avoid cupping over irritated or broken skin.
If you’re unsure whether cupping is right for you, just ask — we’re happy to talk it through and help you decide.
